“An orange gem resting on a blue glass plate: it’s Venice seen from above.”
-Henry James
A Fairy City
love from my childhood
I have been here twice. Even though the first time my wallet was stolen right after I got out from the train station, I still love Venice. You can always hear the gondoliers singing folk songs. They are really easy to recognize, dark skin, wearing navy or red striped t-shirts, long black pants, straw hats, and smiling with their brightest teeth.
Burano (glass island) and Murano are the must-go attractions. Burano is known for its colored houses and intimate lace. Each year, by law, the residents have to re-paint their houses. People will hang their hand-made curtains in front of their doors and decorate the houses with flowers.
Both of my visits to Venice were short, but Venice left me with unforgettable feelings.
